World War II Infantry Anti-Tank Tactics (Elite) $10.75 The battlefield interaction between infantry and tanks was central to combat on most fronts in World War II (1939-1945). The first ‘Blitzkrieg’ campaigns saw the tank achieve a new dominance. New infantry tactics and weapons – some of them desperately dangerous – had to be adopted, while the armies raced to develop more powerful anti-tank guns and new light weapons. By 1945, a new generati... |

Japanese Tank and Antitank Warfare (Special Series, No. 34) $29.2 Originally published in 1944 by the Military Intelligence Service, Unites States War Department. In suitable terrain, the tank is an ideal weapon for the favorite envelopment tactics of the Japanese, although the Japanese had only made limited use of tanks (up until WWII). The Japanese organization (armored divisions and non-division units), tactics (general doctrine, tanks in infantry support, principles of infantry support, special tactical situations), and equipment (tankettes, light/medium/heavy tanks, armored cars, armament) are detailed in this document. Please note these are copies of important historical documents that have been extensively cleaned up by the publisher. While every effort has been made to make these books accessible they sometimes reflect the nature of the age of the originals including the typefaces, print quality and occassional marginalia. These are not poor quality OCR documents with missing pages or tracts illegible text. |

In the Neighborhood of Zero $29.95 Like so many soldiers of his generation, William V. Spanos was not much more than a boy when he went off to fight in World War II. In the chaos of his first battle, what would later become legendary as the Battle of the Bulge, he was separated from his antitank gun crew and taken prisoner in the Ardennes forest. Along with a procession of other prisoners of war, he was marched and conveyed by freight train to Dresden. Surviving the brutal conditions of the labor camps and the Allies’ devastating firebombing of the city, he escaped as the losing German army retreated. |

Ilyushin IL-2/IL-10 $64.43 This is the definitive history of the Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik and provides detailed coverage on every aspect of this famous warplane. This is perhaps the most famous aircraft in the history of Russian and Soviet aviation. During World War 2 this rugged ground attack aircraft was arguably the Soviets' most effective weapon. Protected by its heavy armor, the low-flying aircraft was incredibly difficult to shoot down, and its powerful array of weaponry included a cannon, machine guns, rockets, and special HEAT antitank bombs. It was capable of penetrating the armor of every German tank in the field at the time, including the Panther and Tiger tanks, as well as reaping destruction among the ranks of enemy infantry on the ground. The Il-2 was so successful that the design was produced in greater numbers than any other military aircraft in history, with over 40,000 being built between 1941 and 1955. |

Tiger Tank Owners' Workshop Manual: Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger 1 Ausf.E (SdKfz 181) $21.88 The German Tiger I--officially known as the Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I Auks. E (Skiffs 181)--was probably the most feared battle tank of World War II. Its invincibility lay in its main gun and heavy defensive armor. The Tiger's primary armament was the deadly 88mm Kiwi 36 L/56 gun that was the most powerful antitank gun then in use by any army, capable of penetrating 112mm of armor plate from a range of 1400 meters. The Tiger I also had the toughest armor of any German tank--its frontal armor plate measured 100mm thick. Using the successful approach and format adopted for the Spitfire and Lancaster manuals, "Tiger Tank Manual" gives an insight into acquiring, owning, and operating one of these awesome fighting vehicles. It also gives an idea through personal recollections of what it was like to command a Tiger in war and what it felt like to be on the receiving end of its 88mm gun. |

1/72 Sd. Kfz.251/22 Ausf. D Unidentified Unit, Germany 1945 $28.99 Germany made heavy use of armored halftracks in WWII, the most numerous being the Sd.Kfz.251, with 15,252 units produced by the war's end. The final version was known as the Ausf.D, which was manufactured from early 1943 onwards to simplify and speed up construction. It did so by halving the number of angled plates needed to form the hull. Dragon Armor's 1/72 line brings another Sd.Kfz.251 halftrack in the guise of the Sd.Kfz.251/22, which mounted a 7.5cm PaK 40 gun in the halftrack's troop compartment. Production commenced in December 1944, the aim being to increase as rapidly as possible Germany's inventory of self-propelled antitank guns. The mounted cannon could traverse a total of 38º, and elevate from -3º to 22º. Part of the roof was removed to accommodate the cannon, and there was also room for 22 ammo rounds in the rear. The Sd.Kfz.251/22 was operated by a crew of four. This is Dragon Armor's second depiction of this impressive-looking halftrack. 1/72 T-34/85 Mod. 1944 Unidentified Unit, Eastern Front 1944 $27.49 From June 1943 onwards, there was great concern in the ranks of Soviet tank units. They had met the German Panther for the first time on the field of battle at Kursk, and the mighty Tiger I was being encountered in increasing numbers. The Soviets desperately needed a tank with a more effective gun, and the solution offered up was a T-34 with a larger turret and larger gun. This new tank was known as the T-34/85, and it featured an 85mm antitank gun (derived from an anti-aircraft gun of the same caliber) mounted in a larger three-man turret. This more powerful tank entered service from March 1944 onwards. The Dragon Armor range features such a T-34/85 Mod. 1944 variant. No effort has been spared to achieve a highly detailed and accurately produced 1/72 scale model. It is painted in an interesting camouflage scheme that makes a welcome break from the monochrome green that Russian tanks were typically painted in. Although the unit this tank is from is unidentified, the turret markings re Size: 1:72 Type: Models & Miniatures Color: Multi-Color Color Mapping: Multi-Color |

1/72 Kfz.70 6x4 Personnel Carrier (Winter) $27.49 Dragon Armor is following up its earlier release of a 1/72 scale Kfz.70 6x4 truck with a second version. This type of vehicle served throughout WWII after mass production commenced in 1933. A total of about 7,000 trucks were produced up till 1942. This 6x4 vehicle was powered by an air-cooled 3.308-liter flat-four engine. The horizontal engine gave rise to the truck's distinctive sharply sloped nose, and also to its nickname "Boxer. The truck was used for all kinds of purposes, and it was commonly employed for towing light artillery pieces such as the 3.7cm Pak 35/36 antitank cannon. However, Dragon's new item shows the truck in its Kfz.70 Personnel Carrier configuration. The fully built-up 1/72 scale miniature incorporates full detail both above and below the chassis. For example, the wheels and independent coil spring suspension are masterfully represented. The Kfz.70 Personnel Carrier is finished in a whitewash camouflage scheme so commonly encountered during winter on the Eastern Size: 1:72 Type: Models & Miniatures Color: Multi-Color Color Mapping: Multi-Color |

The Stalin and Molotov Lines: Soviet Western Defences 1928-41 $17.96 During the Russian Civil War, the Red Army created a series of fortified areas, or ukreplinnyje rajony (UR), which were to be used not only for defence but were also to act as staging points for offensive operations. Following the end of the war these defences were extended, creating a front that stretched over 2,000km from the Baltic to the Black Sea, that consisted of more than 3,000 positions from forts to machine gun and antitank positions, emplaced tank turrets, and observation and command positions. By the outbreak of World War II, these defenses - known as the Stalin Line - were largely complete. However, after the Soviet occupation of eastern Poland in October 1939 the Stalin Line was too far behind the new border to be of use as a springboard for an offensive. So, a new set of defenses was begun, named after the Soviet Foreign Minister, Molotov. Equipment was stripped from the Stalin Line, but only 25 percent of the positions had been completed by the time of the German invasion in June 1941 and it proved no match for the Wehrmacht - positions were mostly empty or simply bypassed during the advance. Illustrated with cutaway artwork and rare photographs this book provides a detailed examination of the development of these defensive lines, and the fighting that took place around them in 1941, and is packed with detail and information that is not readily available in the English. |

Stealing the Sword $9.95 Part of a series examining the technology competition between security organizations and terrorist organizations, this report focuses on understanding how terrorist groups make technology choices and consequently how the United States can discourage their adoption of advanced conventional weapons. Five types of advanced conventional weapons are identified that could provide terrorists with a new and qualitatively different weapon capability: sniper rifles, squad-level weapons, antitank missiles, large limpet mines, and mortar systems. Two key methods of limiting the threat from these systems in the hands of terrorists are explored: raising awareness of the threat, and reducing the threat through procedural and technical use controls. Technical use controls offer the surest limitations on terrorist use, but are by far most practical to incorporate when the system is in its design phase. GPS-guided mortars are the most worrisome of the advanced conventional weapons, attractive to terrorists and difficult to mitigate with only awareness and procedural controls. Fortunately, these systems are still in their design phase. For this reason, taking steps now to control GPS-guided mortars is urgent. Two initial steps are needed to begin placing additional procedural and technical use controls on these precise, indirect fire weapons: begin diplomatic discussions with the key producer nations to raise awareness of potential terrorist use of these systems, and commission a detailed technical study of the technical modules and architecture needed to implement proposed technical controls. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) can play a key role in both these steps by pushing to begin diplomatic discussions and by conducting a detailed study, perhaps with the National Security Agency, of the technical architecture for use controls. Additionally, DHS should become a permanent member of the interagency panels considering arms exports. The time to begin negotiating and developing meaningful controls on GPS-guided mortars is now, before the opportunity is lost. |

800 Days on the Eastern Front: A Russian Soldier Remembers World War II $23.98 During his 800 days of war, Nikolai Litvin fought at the front lines in the ferocious tank battles at Kursk, was wounded three times, and witnessed unspeakable brutalities against prisoners and civilians. But he survived to pen this brief but powerful memoir of his wartime experiences. Barely out of his teens, Litvin served for three years in the Red Army on the killing fields of the Eastern Front. His memoir presents an unadorned, candid narrative of the common soldier's lot in Stalin's army. Unlike the memoirs of Russian officers--usually preoccupied with large military operations and political concerns--this narrative offers a true ground-level view of World War Il's deadliest theater. It puts a begrimed human face on the enormous toll of casualties and provides a rare perspective on battles that were instrumental in the defeat of the German army. Litvin's varied roles, ranging from antitank gunner at Kursk to heavy machine gunner in a penal battalion to staff driver for the 352nd Rifle Division, offer unique perspectives on the Red Army in World War II as it fought from the Ukraine deep into the German heartland. Litvin documents such significant battles as Operation Kutuzov, Operation Bagration, and the German counterattack on the Narev, while also providing unique personal observations on fording the Dnepr River under enemy fire, the rape of German women by Russian troops, and literally seeing his life pass before his eyes as he watched a Stuka's bomb fall directly on his position. Originally written in 1962, with events still fresh in his mind, Litvin's memoir lay unpublished and unseen until translator Stuart Britton and a Russian colleague approached him about publishing it inEnglish. Britton interviewed Litvin to flesh out the details of his original recollection and annotated the resulting work to provide historical context for the campaigns and battles in which he participated. Remarkably free of Soviet-era propaganda, this gem of a memoir provides a view of the war never seen by western readers, including photographs from Litvin's personal collection. An invaluable historical document, as well as a remarkable testament of survival, Litvin's memoir offers unique and penetrating insights into the Soviet wartime experience unavailable in any other source. |

Left for Dead: A Second Life After Vietnam $4 Jon Hovde's journey begins with despair and the struggle to stay alive and ends with hope and the inspiration to live. As a twenty-year-old soldier in Vietnam, Hovde lost an arm and a leg when the armored personnel carrier he was driving hit an antitank mine. He was nearly left for dead when the medic at the scene accidentally took his pulse in the arm that had been severed. For weeks, doctors gave Hovde very little chance of survival. When Hovde finally returned home, the transition was not easy. He used alcohol and fast cars to cope with both the physical pain of his injuries and the emotional pain caused by uneasy stares from his friends and neighbors. The straightforward words of a highway patrolman finally opened his eyes to his reckless behavior: "Why would a guy like you, who's survived all you survived, want to come back and kill yourself on our highway?" Hovde went on to marry his high school sweetheart, realize a successful business career, and become a leader of city and state school boards. In 1998, Hovde's war story found some closure when he successfully tracked down and was reunited with the nurse who had helped save his life. He was finally able to thank her. Left for Dead is a gripping memoir that not only recounts Hovde's remarkable recovery from his injuries, but recognizes the efforts of the people who aided him - including the courageous medic who rescued him, a caring army nurse, and army chaplains. Far more than just another tale of combat, Left for Dead will stir emotions in veterans, the families of veterans, and civilians alike. Hovde's lack of bitterness and abundance of hope is a source of inspiration to anyone overcoming obstacles. |

Organized using the new Volksgrenadier Division structure designed in August, the division consisted of three 2-battalion infantry regiments, a four-battalion artillery regiment, a combat engineer battalion, an antitank battalion, signal battalion, fusilier company, and l...
